Cutting Parameters
We completely agree with Russ on cutting parameters. There are too many variables to tell someone what they should use on their machine for a certain type of material. Each machine is an entity unto itself. Each laser tube will fall into a range of power. Most are not exactly the power they are rated but output above or below the rating they are sold as. Then there are the mirrors and lens that will reduce the power to the material. The video that Russ put together explains all this and why published parameters are only guidelines, not hard and fast rules. Russ also shows how he has documented what his machines can do with different materials and thicknesses. We have the files below for you to download and use, with permission from Russ to distribute as we see fit.
Does it matter?
It certainly does if you want to get the best work out of your laser without using too much power or not enough. When you spend the time to get all of this information together up front, you will spend less time and materials later when you go into production. Money well spent believe me.
Who is this Russ guy?
Russ is a retired engineer in the U.K. that used laser cutters in his work, the big industrial types. Now, he has some time to ‘play' to our benefit. He explains things in a well thought out and logical manner. If he misses the mark he always comes back with that information. You can catch his videos on his YouTube Channel.
